Energy Consumption Dashboard Specification
 NZO - Open Energy (Omnis)

Background

I joined the project after a partial specification phase conducted by an external party, which had not matured into a clear and actionable document for development. The project aimed to build a website featuring advanced dashboards for monitoring electricity consumption in Israel.

Main Challenges

  • Incomplete and non-actionable existing specification

  • High complexity of data coming from multiple sources

  • Need to understand external data and translate it into a new presentation layer

  • Converting complex datasets into clear and intuitive visual dashboards

Objective

To complete a detailed and structured system specification that would enable the development of data-driven dashboards with a clear and accessible user experience.

My Role

  • Leading and completing the system specification phase

  • Deep dive into data structures and understanding data sources

  • Working closely with the client and design team

  • Building a solid foundation for the development phase

What I Did in Practice

  • Analyzed the existing specification and identified gaps

  • Took full ownership of the specification process and redefined it

  • Gained deep understanding of data sources and their usage

  • Reviewed external systems and extracted insights for improvement

  • Wrote a detailed system specification document

  • Prepared data source documentation and system diagrams

  • Collaborated closely with the design team to translate requirements into UI concepts

Outcome

  • Delivered a complete and clear specification document that served as the foundation for development

  • Aligned client, design, and development teams for the next stages of the project

My Unique Contribution

I stepped into a complex project at a challenging stage, completed an unfinished specification, and transformed complex data into a clear and actionable development plan.
